AI assistants recommend brands they can read, understand and describe the same way every time.
In practice that comes down to four jobs: let the AI crawlers in, tell them plainly who you are with structured data, answer the questions your buyers ask on your own pages, and make sure the rest of the web says the same about you.
That work has a name now: answer engine optimisation, or AEO.
Your buyers are already asking.
"Who's the best Webflow agency for a Series A SaaS company?" "Which brand agencies work with fintech?" "What should a B2B website cost?"
The answer comes back as a short list of names with a line on each. If you're not on it you won't even know, because you never see the search that left you out.
The good news is the bar's still low. Plenty of B2B sites haven't touched any of this yet.
Start with the basics, because they're often broken.
Check your robots.txt. Some sites block AI crawlers by accident, through an old rule or a setting someone switched on without thinking about it.
If GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot can't read your pages, nothing else on this list matters.
Structured data (JSON-LD schema) tells an AI what your business is without it having to guess from your copy.
The useful ones for a B2B site:
On Webflow these sit in the page settings, so they can be added and kept current without touching the build.
An llms.txt is a plain markdown file at the root of your site that sums up your business for language models: what you do, who for, your key pages and your FAQs.
It's a proposal rather than a rule any engine has to follow, but it costs little to add and it gives an assistant one clean, accurate source to read. hydro.website has one, and so does eluviant.com, which we launched with schema on every page.
If you only do one part of this, do this one.
AI answers are built from pages that answer a question directly. So write pages and FAQs around the questions your buyers type, and put the answer in the first two lines rather than the fifth paragraph.
"How long does a website take?" gets "Eight weeks on average, four for smaller sites" up top, then the detail.
The same goes for your service pages. If a buyer would ask it, there should be a page that answers it in your own words.
Assistants cross-check what you say against what everyone else says.
Reviews, partner directories, case studies on your clients' sites, articles that mention you. When those match your own site (same name, same services, same facts), the assistant can describe you with confidence.
When they don't, it hedges. Or it just names someone else.
Our own example: 4.9 from 56 Google reviews and a Premium Webflow Partner listing are both facts an assistant can check without taking our word for it.
You ask the engines, every month, the questions your buyers ask, and you record who gets named and how you're described.
That's the core of our AEO service. Each month we track how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews describe the brand, fix what they're reading in Webflow, and report what changed.
On Webflow sites, Webflow Analyze also shows how much traffic AI assistants send you and how those visitors convert.
Our free AEO assessment scores how the main AI engines see your brand out of 100, across content, technical, authority and measurement, and ranks the top five fixes by impact.
It's in your inbox within the hour, for any website.
Answer engine optimisation is making sure AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity understand your brand, describe it accurately and recommend it when buyers ask.
They overlap. Good SEO (fast pages, clear structure, strong content) helps AEO. AEO adds AI crawler access, structured data, llms.txt and pages written to answer specific questions in the first lines.
Technical fixes like crawler access and schema can be read within weeks of going live. Being named consistently in AI answers builds month by month as your content and mentions grow, which is why it's tracked monthly.
